I decided that my drawings should not sit lazily in my sketchbooks collecting dust. I needed them to DO something. I wanted my drawings to contribute to society somehow. That mantra meant, as a first step, getting my drawings online and trying to sell them.
Where to start?!
I figured if I could sell my art in the form of prints, and donate some of the proceeds to an organization in need and that aligned with my values, I could achieve so much satisfaction and contribute to an amazing cause.
I happen to be a volunteer with Mary's Meals, an organization based on feeding children in poor countries for the goal of keeping them in school. It costs them $26.40 to feed a child for an entire year. Yes, you read that right: for 365 days!
I strongly believe in education for all and inspiring a positive learning experience by helping children learn on a full stomach and Mary's Meals is perfectly positioned to help me support those beliefs.
I decided to launch a campaign for Mother's Days as my drawings have been mostly flowers lately, and pieces that would be ideally-themed for the occasion. So, why not start there?
This campaign runs until the end of May, of selling my work and donating 10% of revenues to Mary's Meals! I'm now considering changing up the art for future campaigns with the same goals in mind: make my art do something, prevent hunger in children and help them get an education --- for $26.40/year. Wow.
